Thrillionaire adventurist Nik Halik, who has been to the deck of a Titanic in a 2-person sub, gives the Billionaires lost near the Titanic only a 10% chance of survival
The Australian National Review reached out to former Australian Nik Halik for his expert opinion on the chances of survival for the lost billionaires in the submersible that was lost near the Titanic.
See below also footage of the Titanic on his submersible trip, which he shared at 21stCenturyUniversity as one of its past lecturers
From Nik Halik
I’ve done multiple radio interviews over the last few days on the matter. I was the last recorded guy back in the 2005 dives.
I went down on a private exploration with the Russians. We had strict protocols with 2 submersibles diving at the same time to assist the other in any emergencies. We had a different mission mandate.
This American outfit, called OceanGate, only started operations in the last year. They had their own built submersible on the cheap. They had no backup sub to lend support. The 4 tourists onboard had zero redundancies made available for them.
One of the tourists is my friend. We are both members of the Explorers Club in NYC.
My personal take: they lost communication at 3,200 meters depth. Either they got snagged on RMS Titanic wreckage or the hull was compromised and it imploded. If they are still alive by chance, the CO2 will poison them before their O2 runs out. The carbon scrubbers may not be operational.
Here is a 3-minute highlight reel of my 2005 dive.
Sadly, I give them only a 10% chance of survival.
